Cultural Differences Between
Countries and Regions
When organisations merge, acquire companies abroad or expand into new markets, understanding general cultural theory is often not enough. Leaders and teams need insight into the particular expectations, perceptions, communication styles, decision-making processes, values and workplace norms of the country they are entering. Julien offers tailored lectures that compare concrete national and business cultures, helping participants understand how cultural differences play out in practice.
These sessions help organisations anticipate friction, avoid misinterpretation and adapt leadership styles to local expectations. By clarifying differences early, organisations reduce costly misunderstandings, strengthen integration processes and improve collaboration and performance across borders. The lectures are particularly relevant for international management teams, multinational leadership teams, HR departments and leaders responsible for cross-border integration.
Each lecture is customised to the countries and regions most relevant to the client, addressing the specific cultural differences between your own country and the one you are entering. The analysis draws on Julien’s approximately 50 cultural themes, including meetings, feedback, negotiation, trust, independence, reporting, decision-making, leadership, scheduling, communication, rule adherence and collaboration.
After years of living in a variety of cultures and spending the last 15 years analysing cultural differences, Julien is comfortable working across a wide range of regions, including Canada, USA, Germany, France, Spain, Switzerland, India, China, Japan, Singapore, Thailand and the Nordics. Julien can also bring up how cultures differ on the East-West or North-South axis and between regions, for example, Western Europe, Eastern Europe, East Asia, Latin America and the Middle East.
Julien delivers engaging keynotes (45–60 minutes), extended lectures, half-day sessions and full-day courses with workshops. He delivers his lectures in English, French and Norwegian and can also deliver parts of a keynote in Spanish when relevant to the audience.
